Wood throne ottoman, 'Arrogance'
Nana
Frimpong sculpts this traditional West African stool with
a powerful message. The name Enye Ahantan is an Akan statement
meaning "do not be arrogant;" it is usually expressed
in an Adinkra symbol. Smooth sese wood curves invitingly,
its rounded base embellished with intricate geometric symbols.
Black mansion polish finishes this extraordinary work. "I
created this piece to remind you that there is no need to
be boastful," the artisan admonishes, "but rather
be watchful and pray."

Ashanti throne ottoman, 'Endurance'
Hye
wonhye means "imperishability" and "endurance,"
expressed as an Adinkra symbol. These express wise sayings
and proverbs in Ghana. Gordon Adu He chooses this name for
an elegant throne ottoman. Used by West African royalty,
this piece is hand-carved of sese wood.

Throne ottoman, 'White Elephant'
Magnificently
carved from sese wood, a proud bull (male) elephant bears
the weight of an ottoman. Eddison Agbeko carves a traditional
Ashanti throne for the contemporary dcor. "The
elephant is the strongest animal in the forest," Agbeko
says. Thus he carries the king himself. The elegant ottoman
receives an antique finish with white clay.
